In The Qube 3D
Sony Pictures Television / Sizzle
The first foray into a new medium is a crucial moment for any company. When Sony Pictures Television decided to launch their first 3D show, they conducted a hunt for a TV production company they could trust to turn their international hit 2D show, IN THE QUBE, into a 3D domestic program for 3Net.
Then in August of 2010, the phone rang at JUMP! …and we picked it up. JUMP! competed against several TV production houses to win the show. Ultimately, Sony realized how important it was to have their flagship show produced correctly in 3D… and gave the show to the experts at JUMP!
Over the next year, JUMP! made history by delivering the first all-3D entertainment news magazine show - in one-hour monthly episodes to air on 3NET.
From development to production, editorial to finishing, the show had a unique set of challenges never before seen in the network TV world.
Since the beginning, it’s been a challenge to locate, source, and clear enough great 3D content to fill up a one-hour show in the nascent world of 3D television. We realized early on that to keep the bar high, we’d have to contribute to the show’s content. From music performances to sporting events, the production team at JUMP! traveled high and low to shoot and fill the show with compelling 3D content, from Mammoth to Mexico.
Showcasing content from multiple providers of 3D also held its own set of challenges. In a developing space where standards are still evolving, JUMP! had to dive into a melee of 3D correction every day, creating solutions which brought a huge array of formats, resolutions and frame rates… solving never before seen issues and continuing to set the standards for 3D network television.
